Waterbury Clock Co. Column Shelf Clock - 24.5 in tall 16.5 in wide This 19th-century American shelf clock is a Column and Cornice model produced by the Waterbury Clock Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut. The wooden case features a dark wood veneer, a flared upper cornice, and a stepped base. Two side columns with hand-painted gilt capitals and bases flank the hinged front door. The door is fitted with two glass panels; the lower panel displays a reverse-painted verre eglomise design featuring a bird and a basket of flowers against a green background. The white painted metal dial contains black Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and hand-painted floral decorations in each corner. A scalloped cutout in the center of the dial provides a view of the internal brass components. The clock is powered by a two-train, weight-driven brass movement designed for time and strike operations. The interior houses a coiled wire gong, two cylindrical iron weights, and a pendulum with a brass-faced bob. An original printed paper label is attached to the backboard, identifying the manufacturer as the Waterbury Clock Co.
