19th C. American Eastlake Pine Chest - 40x20x45 This antique American Victorian tall chest of drawers, dating to the late 19th century, features Eastlake stylistic influences. The piece is constructed with a primary wood of pine or poplar, finished in a warm amber stain intended to simulate fruitwood or cherry. It is configured with eight drawers in total: three small drawers across the top tier, two medium-width drawers in the second tier, and three full-width drawers at the base. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joinery and drawer fronts decorated with beaded or rope-twist molded borders. The stiles are ornamented with turned half-column pilasters, and the chest is topped with a carved splashback crest featuring stylized floral and scroll motifs. Hardware consists of ornate cast brass bail pulls on decorative escutcheons, small brass knob pulls on the uppermost tier, and brass-lined keyholes throughout. The side panels are inset and finished with a contrasting darker stain. A faint handwritten pencil signature, possibly reading J. Mee or J. Lee, is located on the exterior side of one drawer. The back of the chest is constructed of wide horizontal secondary wood boards and contains two keyhole-shaped cutouts for mirror mounting.
