19th C. American Marquetry Workbox - 13x9x7.5 This 19th-century wooden workbox, attributed to American folk art traditions, features a sarcophagus form with a waisted profile and extensive parquetry and marquetry decoration throughout. The exterior is constructed from wood and surfaced with various contrasting light and dark wood veneers arranged in complex geometric patterns, including tumbling block, diamond, and chevron motifs. The box is designed with a hinged lid that opens to a single deep interior compartment. The underside of the lid features a shaped decorative cutout, likely originally intended for an inset mirror or upholstered panel. A small metal keyhole is centered on the front face. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the piece.
