French Style Coopered Oak Cider Pitcher - 8 inches tall This vessel is a stave-constructed (coopered) pitcher, of a form traditionally used for serving cider or wine in France and other parts of Europe. The tapered body is composed of vertical oak staves displaying prominent grain and medullary rays. These staves are secured by four horizontal brass bands of varying widths, fastened with small copper and brass rivets. The top of the pitcher is fitted with a sheet brass rim featuring a pointed pouring spout. A large, curved brass handle is attached to the upper section of the body and the rim. A faint, circular impressed mark is located in the center of the wooden base; however, the characters and symbols are worn and cannot be clearly identified. The pitcher includes a fitted cork stopper. 8 in tall.
