Victorian 3D Chromolithograph Diorama - This lot consists of a circular shadowbox frame containing a three-dimensional chromolithographed paper diorama, resembling a Victorian-era German mechanical pull-down valentine. The central assembly is constructed from layered die-cut paper elements depicting a winged cherub atop an ornate carriage. The carriage is lavishly decorated with clusters of blue forget-me-nots and a large pink rose, and it is connected to several white doves by fine metallic link chains. The scene is set against a solid pale blue background and rests on a decorative paper base with blue floral motifs. The diorama is housed behind glass in a dark-stained wood frame with a wide cream-colored inner liner and a gilded slip. The reverse of the frame is sealed with paper and fitted with a hanging wire, bearing modern auction inventory tags and faint handwritten notations.20 inches diameter.
