Standard Slide Corp New Departure Slide - A collection of 20 antique American magic lantern slides produced primarily by the Standard Slide Corp. and depicting the corporate and community life of the New Departure Manufacturing Company in Bristol, Connecticut. The slides are constructed of glass plates with paper masks and black tape-bound edges. Most slides feature a tan or orange paper mask with printed information from the Standard Slide Corp., located at 211 West 48th St., New York. One slide is attributed to Underwood and Underwood, N.Y. The subject matter documents the industrial welfare capitalism of the early 20th century, including images of the administration building and main plant, the Hospital Department at Plant C, and scenes from Endee Manor and Endee House, including the lobby and game room. The collection features various employee organizations and athletic teams, such as the Plant C Baseball Team (Hartford City League Champions), Girl's Baseball Team, Girl's Basketball Team, Girl's Swimming Class, New Departure Drum Corps, New Departure Orchestra, Relay Runners, Bowling Champions, and a Boy Scout troop composed of sons and brothers of employees.
