Bidspirit auction | Pair Vtg Huron Style Rawhide

Pair Vtg Huron Style Rawhide Snowshoes - 33 inches. A pair of vintage traditional wooden snowshoes designed in the Huron or Michigan style. The frames are constructed from steam-bent wood, likely ash, and terminate in a long, pointed tail. The interior webbing consists of hand-woven rawhide, commonly referred to as babiche, which is laced through the frame. Each shoe is fitted with adjustable black rubberized fabric strap bindings and cordage. This style is traditionally used for flotation and stability in deep, soft snow. No maker marks are clearly visible, though the design is consistent with mid-20th-century North American manufacture.
