Chinese Satsuma Bird & Flower Fish Bowl - 11x14 This large Chinese export porcelain fish bowl or planter is decorated in the Satsuma style with extensive gilding, featuring a bird and flower motif consistent with late 20th-century production for the international decorative arts market. The vessel features a bulbous body with a wide, flat rim. The exterior is decorated with two large, scalloped reserve panels set against a rich, gold-gilt ground. The panels are hand-painted with bird-and-flower motifs, including large pink and orange peonies, yellow blossoms, and stylized songbirds perched on blue rockwork. The surrounding gilt ground is detailed with a dark-tone scrolling foliate pattern. The upper shoulder is accented with a border of red ruyi-heads, while the top surface of the rim features four separate floral and vine sprays. The base is finished with a band of red and yellow geometric lappets. The interior is glazed white. The underside of the vessel bears a red stamped mark featuring a stylized bat motif above the block letters MADE IN CHINA. Dimensions not provided.
