Antique Reed & Steam Bent Oak Basket - 30.5x20x11 This large, rectangular American primitive storage basket was likely intended for heavy utilitarian use, such as bakery delivery, orchard harvesting, or industrial crate storage. It is constructed using a combination of hand-woven reed and steam-bent oak. The body features wide, flat vertical wood splints interwoven with thick, rounded horizontal weavers. The top is finished with a heavy, double-thick steam-bent oak rim, which is secured with small metal tacks. The underside is fortified with five thick wooden skids or runners, also fastened with metal tacks, intended to protect the bottom of the basket from wear and allow it to slide across industrial flooring. No maker marks or stamps are visible on the piece.
