American Empire Cherry Chest w/ Gallery - 40x51x24 An American Empire cherry chest of drawers dating to the mid-19th century, circa 1840-1860. The piece is constructed with cherry as the primary wood and secondary woods of pine or poplar. It features a decorative backsplash gallery on the top surface, consisting of two curved side supports and a central horizontal rail terminating in turned finials. The drawer arrangement includes a top row of three drawers?a wide central drawer flanked by two smaller outer drawers?positioned above three full-width graduated drawers. All drawers are assembled using hand-cut dovetail joinery. The drawers are fitted with turned wooden knobs and central keyholes with simple brass escutcheons. The chest is supported by heavy turned front legs and square rear legs, all mounted on metal casters. A single skeleton key is included with the piece.
