P&O FLAG BELIEVED TO BE FROM THE FALKLANDS WAR AND THE SS CANBERRA
This particular flag is from the old P&O vessel the SS Canberra and was used during the Falklands War in 1982. It is an old full size P&O Houseflag and is ex stock from the store of the Canberra. It was reputedly used on the return from Falklands War and flown on the Canberra. The size of the flag is 11ft x 7ft (335cm x 213cm ). It has some slight damage with regard to a few holes but otherwise is a nice piece and a genuine item.
[The SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of 17,000,000. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, GBE, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and took her maiden voyage starting in June. During the 1982 Falklands War, she served as a troop ship.]
