Chinese Qing Lapis Lazuli Bead Chaozhu Necklace - Chinese Chaozhu necklace, also known as a Court necklace or Mandarin necklace, w/ lapis lazuli beads & a few red stone beads (possibly coral). Traditionally. this type of necklace was worn as an essential element of the Qing dynasty Court clothing uniform. The chaozu is based on the 108-beaded Buddhist rosary but shifted from being a religious object to being a symbol of social status while only maintaining some liturgic function. The bead strand measures approx. 72” long. See photos for further details.
