Antique Korean Mother of Pearl Inlaid Box - Antique rectangular Korean box from the 19th century measuring approx. 5.5” H x 12” W x 8” D. Similar item sold at Christie's for $87,500 on March 19, 2019, Japanese and Korean Art Live Auction 17148. It features intricate mother-of-pearl inlay across the exterior. Decorative geometric / diamond shape and 6 pointed flower / star / sun motif adorns the sides, with a central circular inlay design on the lid that is similar to the Double Happiness symbol. The interior is lined with a blue textile. The base is lacquered. Exhibits wear consistent with age, including visible cracking to the inlay surface and edge wear. Could be used as stationery ore letter box, trinket box, or jewelry box.
