A SPANISH CUPHILT RAPIER SWORD - With broad, shallow steel guard, the guard with recurved terminals and robust knucklebow, the flattened spherical pommel with stepped base. Wooden grip with raveled wire wrap. The long, straight, double-edged blade with short, deep fuller to either side struck with a cross and marked FRANCISCO RUIZ and EN TOLEDO and transitioning to a diamond cross-section, originally blued, now brown. Latter 17th century. Hilt age darkened. Overall length 102.6cm./ 40 3/8 inches. Condition III
