A RARE DAYAK HEADHUNTER KLIAU SHIELD - Of characteristic form, carved from a single large section of wood with raised central ridge and integral grip to the reverse, strengthened with bands of rattan, and elaborately embellished with numerous hair tassels. Both the obverse and reverse surfaces painted overall with organic pigments, depicting dragons and demons with complex interlaced tentacles. Late 19th- early 20th century. Minor wear. Overall length 123cm/ 48 3/8 inches. Condition II
