This expressive oil on canvas captures the moody, atmospheric light of a rain-swept landscape in rural Catalonia. The composition is viewed from a forest path, looking through a frame of dense, dark foliage toward a solitary, white-washed farmhouse (masia) nestled against a looming, mist-shrouded mountain. The artist utilizes a deep, earth-toned palette of forest greens, charcoal, and ochre, punctuated by the bright, reflective white of the building’s walls.
The work is signed “Mercadé” and dated ’95 in white impasto in the lower-right corner. The technique is characterized by a vigorous, almost frantic application of paint, using thick, gestural brushstrokes to convey the movement of wind and the texture of wet vegetation. Detailed inscriptions on the reverse confirm the title, date (15/10/1995), and the inventory number 3295. Housed in a substantial dark wood frame with a gold inner lip and linen mat, the piece is in excellent condition, offering a powerful example of modern Catalan landscape expressionism.
