NIKOLAI FECHIN RUSSIAN FEMALE PORTRAIT OIL PAINTING - After Nicolai Fechin (Russian, 1881–1955). Oil painting on canvas. Portrait of a girl. Signed ”N. Fechin” lower left. Undated. Framed. Nicolai Fechin studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg under Ilya Repin. In 1908 he was awarded a Prix de Rome scholarship that enabled him to travel and study in Europe’s artistic capitals, and on his return to Kazan he accepted a position teaching at the local art school. Fechin fled Russia after the October Revolution and settled in the US where he developed a deep appreciation for the landscape and the local Native American culture.
