ERNEST FIENE 1922 STILL LIFE WITH FRUIT AND BOTTLE - This significant 1922 oil on canvas by German-American artist Ernest Fiene (1894–1965) depicts a lush still life of lemons, pears, and grapes in a footed glass bowl alongside a dark green bottle. Painted early in Fiene's career—around the time of his first solo exhibition at the Whitney Studio Club—the work displays a burgeoning interest in structured form and soft color gradients that bridge traditional realism with emerging Modernist principles. The canvas is signed and dated ”E. Fiene 22” in the lower left, and the reverse includes a secondary unfinished composition, a common practice for artists of the period. All measurements are approximate. Condition The oil on canvas is in very good condition with minor surface dust and craquelures, including small spots paint loss; the reverse features a partial blue contour sketch and an ”EGFA” collection label.
