Ivan Choultse (Russian-French, 1874–1939). Oil painting on canvas. Winter landscape. Signed "Iw. F. Choultse" lower right. Framed.
Ivan Choultse was a Russian painter, student of Constantin Kryzhitsky. Master of complex light effects, glare and reflections, Choultse was creating incredible landscapes throughout his life, as if depicting not our real world, but some phantasmagoria. His works were widely collected by the Faberge and Royal Romanov families. After the October Revolution, Choultse emigrated to France.
