AMERICAN OIL PAINTING BY SUSANNA COFFEY - Susanna Coffey (American, b. 1949). An oil on wood panel painting depicting a portrait of a figure superimposed against a backdrop of urban devastation. The work is titled Fall and dated 2003. The reverse bears paper labels from Tibor de Nagy Gallery and Alpha Gallery. Susanna J. Coffey is a prominent American artist and educator. She serves as the F. H. Sellers Professor of Painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and lives and works in New York City. She was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1999. Coffey is best known for her paintings of heads, frequently self-portraits, including Self Portrait, Versace (Canal) Scarf in the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art.
