OLD MASTER STYLE MADONNA ADDOLORATA OIL PAINTING - This 19th-century oil on canvas painting, titled Madonna Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows), is a devotional work executed after the original c. 1650 masterpiece by Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato. The composition depicts a youthful Virgin Mary in a state of prayerful grief, characterized by her humbly clasped hands, a dark blue mantle, and a subtle luminous glow surrounding her head against a dark, infinite background. The work reflects the archaizing commitment to the High Renaissance style and the idealized beauty for which Sassoferrato was renowned. It is housed in a traditional carved and gilded frame with classical foliate motifs.
