ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT TRYPHON - An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Saint Tryphon. Dated 19th century. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with gilding. Saint Tryphon or Tryphon of Apamea is an early Christian martyr of the 3rd century, venerated in both the Catholic and Orthodox churches. He was born in Phrygia and from childhood had the gift of healing the ailments of people and animals, as well as exorcising evil spirits.
