Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board, enclosed in gilt repousse oklad. Softening of Evil Hearts is an icon of the Mother of God which symolizes the prophecy of St. Simeon, Virgin Mary is depicted with seven swords stuck in her heart referring to the seven years of her suffering on Earth.
