RUSSIAN OIL ON PAINTING BY MAX BIRSHTEIN LILAC BUSH, 1946 - A large, vibrant original oil on canvas painting by celebrated Russian/Ukrainian artist Max Avadievich Birshtein (1914-2000). Executed in a bold, post-impressionist style with thick impasto brushwork, the sunlit composition depicts a blossoming lilac bush beside a wooden house, with a figure standing on the porch near an orange door. The artwork is signed and dated in Cyrillic ”М. Бирштейн 46” in the lower right corner. The reverse of the canvas is extensively inscribed in Cyrillic with the artist's name, the title ”Куст сирени” (Lilac Bush), the date (1946), and dimensions (115 x 100), alongside a faded Russian Federation Ministry of Culture export stamp. The painting is presented in a massive, ornately carved giltwood frame featuring a brass artist nameplate.
