19TH C. REVERSE GLASS PAINTING OF QUEEN LOUISE OF PRUSSIA - A charming late 19th-century reverse glass painting depicting Queen Louise of Prussia, after the famous 1879 portrait by Gustav Richter. The beloved Queen is shown descending the palace stairs in a white Empire-waist gown and a starry diadem, draped in a dark, ermine-lined cloak. The artwork was likely executed using a lithographic transfer technique, heavily hand-painted from behind the glass. It is housed in a period gilded wood and gesso frame featuring a sanded inner cove, notably surmounted by an applied brass royal crown.
