LIDIYA MASTERKOVA WATERCOLOR LANDSCAPE,PAINTING 1998 - A 1998 watercolor on paper study (étude) by renowned Soviet Nonconformist artist Lidiya Masterkova (Russian/French, 1927–2008). The painting depicts a soft, atmospheric, semi-abstracted landscape with trees and a clearing, executed in loose, ethereal washes of green, blue, and russet. The work is signed with the artist's Cyrillic monogram ”Л.М.” in the lower right corner. Attached to the verso is a highly significant handwritten certificate of authenticity by fellow Lianozovo Group artist Nikolai Vechtomov. The Russian inscription translates to: ”This study was painted by the artist Lidiya Masterkova in France in May 1998. I hereby certify this. N. The measurements are approximate. Condition Good contemporary condition. The watercolor on paper appears stable with no visible tears or severe fading. Housed under glass in a simple metal frame with a mat; the frame exhibits light handling wear. Not examined outside of the frame.
