ANATOLIY KITAEV HERRING IS COMING OIL PAINTING 1974 - 1974 oil on canvas painting by Soviet Russian artist Anatoliy Fedorovich Kitaev (b. 1932), titled ”Herring is Coming” (Сельдь идет). Executed in the rugged, expressive Soviet ”Severe Style, ” the composition depicts a fresh catch of fish lying on a wooden pallet surrounded by hungry seagulls, with fishing boats and hills in the background. The painting is signed ”А. Китаев” (A. Kitaev) in the lower right corner. The reverse of the canvas is titled, signed, and dated 1974 in Cyrillic.
