PIERRE BOSCO FRENCH ABSTRACT OIL PAINTING 1960S - Pierre Bosco (French, 1909–1993). Oil painting on canvas. Abstract composition in blue, red, and black. Wide brushstrokes, impasto technique. Signed lower right. Titled 'Arlequin a cheval'. Undated. Framed. Alex Maguy Gallery label on the backside. Pierre Bosco was a descendant of the renowned Italian Della Rovere family. He moved to Paris in the 1930s to pursue art and met the artists Pierre Bonnard, Andrr Derain, Aristide Maillol, Edouard Vuillard and his brother-in-law, the Nabi painter Ker-Xavier Roussel, who became Bosco's great spiritual master and with whom he discovered his own artistic personality. In the 1950s he began to realize greater success participating in an exhibition at the Paris Museum of Modern Art where his paintings received high praise. In April 1967 Bosco was awarded the Silver Medal of the City of Paris and in June he was made Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture.
