MADELEINE GEKIERE SWISS AMERICAN ABSTRACT OIL PAINTING - Madelein Gekiere (American, 1919–2014). Oil painting on canvas. Abstract composition, intertwined patches of grey, brown, red, and white colors. Titled 'Veiled Future'. Dated ca. 1970s. Unsigned. Framed. The authenticity of the artwork was confirmed by Babcock Galleries, the letter is attached. Having completed her studies at New York University, the Art Students League, and Brooklyn Museum School, Gekiere found her way as an artist, painter and sculptor. Her early drawing and paintings explore modernist abstraction and feature an earthy palette of blacks, browns and tans, while her later works experiment with assemblage, using everyday objects implying connections to figurative forms, like light bulbs, wood handles, toys, hosiery and books. Gekiere began showing her work at the Badcock Gallery in the New York in 1950s. She later began creating films and short stories, moving towards a multi-disciplinary approach in art.
