RUSSIAN IMPERIAL SILVER GILT ICON OF ST. VLADIMIR - A magnificent antique Imperial Russian icon depicting the Holy Blessed Prince Saint Vladimir. The figure is finely rendered in the late 19th-century academic style with a highly expressive face. The painting is housed within an exceptional, heavy 84 standard silver-gilt oklad (riza). The oklad features an arched opening framed by elaborate, deeply chased and repoussé scrolling floral motifs, accented with raised domed rosettes. The lower edge is fully and crisply hallmarked with the 84 zolotnik purity mark, the left-facing kokoshnik mark dating the piece to 1899-1908, the assayer's initials ”АЛ”, and the maker's/retailer's mark for the prestigious St. Petersburg firm ”ВЛАДИМІРОВЪ” (Vladimirov).
