MARC-LOUIS SOLON PATE-SUR-PATE MOON FLASK VASES - A highly important pair of late 19th-century pâte-sur-pâte porcelain moon flask vases, decorated by the master of the medium, Marc-Louis Solon (French/British, 1835–1913). The flattened circular bodies are glazed in a deep, glossy black and raised on four splayed feet. Each vase is masterfully decorated with translucent white slip relief carving; one depicts a classical maiden reading a tablet in a tree, the other shows a maiden pouring an offering to a flame held by a putto. The scenes are framed by striking gilt borders featuring Greek key and palmette motifs. Marks: Both vases bear the clear, incised intertwined ”LS” monogram of Marc-Louis Solon in the black ground near the tree trunks.
