CHINESE FAMILLE NOIRE PORCELAIN BALUSTER VASE - A highly decorative Chinese export porcelain vase decorated in the Famille Noire palette, dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic period (circa 1890–1920). The tall baluster-form body features a rich, iridescent black ground profusely enameled in vibrant Famille Verte colors. The primary scene depicts a beautifully detailed pheasant perched upon stylized Taihu rockwork, surrounded by blooming pink and yellow peonies and white prunus blossoms. The underside features an unmarked, recessed glazed base with an unglazed foot rim. Dimensions Height 17 1/2 in, Diameter 6 1/2 in. The measurements are approximate. Condition The porcelain body is structurally sound with no immediately visible chips, or repairs to the rim or base. There is a tight, vertical hairline extending downward from the top rim into the interior neck. The enamels remain bright with only minor, expected age-appropriate rubbing. The base has later-added protective felt pads.
