MONUMENTAL PAIR OF MEIJI PERIOD MORIAGE PORCELAIN VASES - A spectacular and massive pair of Japanese export porcelain baluster vases, dating to the late Meiji or early Taisho period (circa 1900–1920). Each vase features a serene celadon-green ground profusely decorated with highly detailed, three-dimensional moriage (raised slip) chrysanthemums in brilliant shades of pink, purple, yellow, red, and white. The intricate floral arrangements wrap completely around the bodies, framed by dense, intricately gilded borders at the rims and bases. Marks: The undersides bear a black and gold rectangular cartouche reading ”Dai Nippon” (Great Japan) alongside the maker's mark.
