PAIR OF KPM COBALT PORCELAIN VASES STYLE OF WEICHMALEREI - A magnificent and large-scale pair of 19th-century KPM Sèvres-style porcelain covered vases, utilizing blanks from the KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) factory in Berlin. Modeled in the classic Vase à oreilles form, each features a rich cobalt blue ground heavily decorated with raised, tooled gilt scrolling foliage and beadwork. The front reserves feature masterfully hand-painted romantic courting couples in 18th-century dress (in the manner of Watteau), while the reverse reserves feature lush, vibrant floral bouquets in the style of Weichmalerei. Flanked by molded, parcel-gilt foliate handles and surmounted by pinecone finials. Marks: Undersides bear the underglaze blue pseudo-Sèvres interlaced ”L” mark, alongside the iron-red KPM orb mark. The porcelain shows no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The hand-painted panels are bright and un-scratched. The heavy raised gilding remains brilliantly intact with only very minor age-appropriate rubbing.
