ANTIQUE AUSTRIAN RAPHAEL SERVICE PORCELAIN TEA SET - An antique Austrian porcelain coffee set inspired by the famous Raphael Service, commissioned by Tsar Alexander III from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in Saint Petersburg. Dated late 19th century. A total of 8 items, including a coffee pot, a sugar bowl, a creamer, two tea cups with saucers, and a serving tray. The design of the service follows that of the Raphael loggia at the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the pope in Vatican City. Richly gilded pieces with Greek Antiquity figures in oval cartouches, meander bands, and grotesque ornamentation. Each item is marked 'Wien GR' on the bottom.
