GUNTER KORUS BALLERINA OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING, 1978 - A dramatic, large-scale original oil on canvas by German-American artist Gunter H. Korus. Titled ”Ballerina” and executed in 1978, the painting captures a principal dancer dramatically illuminated by theatrical footlights, with the faint silhouettes of the corps de ballet receding into the shadowy background. Korus masterfully utilizes strong chiaroscuro and heavy impasto to give the tutu and jewels a three-dimensional, luminous quality. Marks: Signed and dated ”Korus 78” in the lower right. The reverse stretcher is dated ”11-78” and bears the artist's original studio business card from Schenectady, NY.
