ALEXIS PODCHERNIKOFF RUSSIAN GENRE SCENE OIL PAINTING - Alexis Matthew Podchernikoff (Russian-American, 1886–1933). Oil painting on canvas. The artwork depicts a nymph with two cherubs in landscape scenery. Signed ”A.M. Podchernikoff” and dated 1912 lower left. Framed. Alexis Matthew Podchernikoff first studied art with his grandfather Dmitri Zolotarieff and later with Ilya Repin and Vasily Vereshchagin. After the Russo-Japanese War, he immigrated to the U.S. and settled in California. Podchernikoff's style and palette are often compared to those of Camille Corot.
