Executed in 1912, the painting depicts a young boy, identified as Jack Beresford, wearing a classic dark blue sailor suit. Troubetzkoy employs his signature society-portrait style, utilizing soft, luminous flesh tones against a dark, moody background. Marks: The reverse of the canvas is boldly inscribed in ink: ”Pierre Troubetzkoy / 10 May 1912 / New York / Jack - 7 1/2 years old”.
