BENJAMIN GIBBON PORTRAIT OF A MAN IN A CAP OIL PAINTING - A highly expressive, boldly colored original oil on canvas portrait by British artist Benjamin Gibbon (1914-1989). Executed in 1933 when the artist was just 19 years old, the painting depicts a rugged, mustachioed man wearing a flat cap and suit jacket against a deep blue background. Gibbon utilizes a confident, Post-Impressionist impasto technique, using unblended strokes of raw color to build the intense facial structure. Marks: Signed and dated ”Benjamin Gibbon. 1933.” in red pigment to the upper left.
