SÈVRES STYLE FRENCH PORCELAIN PORTRAIT PLATE - A highly decorative, antique French porcelain cabinet plate executed in the Sèvres style, circa 1890-1920. The center features a finely painted portrait of Madame de Montespan, the famous mistress to King Louis XIV, signed by the decorator ”Delière.” The portrait is framed by an elaborate, scalloped border of heavy raised paste gilding. Marks: The underside bears several apocryphal overglaze marks in the style of Sèvres production (including an 1846 Louis Philippe cypher and a Château de St. Cloud stamp), along with the script ”France” and the title ”Mme de Montespan.” sevres style porcelain, french portrait plate, madame de montespan, antique cabinet plate Dimensions Diameter 9 1/2 in.
