PAIR OF MEISSEN PORCELAIN ROMANTIC FIGURES OF MAN AND WOMAN - A charming pair of late 19th/early 20th-century Meissen porcelain figures depicting romantic 18th-century archetypes. The female figure stands beside a marbled pedestal, raising a finger to her lips in a ”hush” gesture while holding a billet-doux (love letter) pierced by a golden arrow. The companion male figure depicts a seated gentleman in a tricorn hat, green frock coat, and striped breeches, posed taking a pinch of snuff. Both are exquisitely hand-painted in bright polychrome enamels and heightened in gilt on rococo-scrolled bases. The female figure appears to be in very good condition with no obvious major losses (the delicate arrow is intact). The male figure is missing an element from his cupped left hand (originally a snuff box) and exhibits minor handling wear. Both bases show typical, minor shelf wear.
