LARGE 19C EMILE PICAULT GILT BRONZE TAZZA CENTERPIECE - An impressive 19th-century French gilt bronze tazza centerpiece designed by renowned sculptor Emile Picault. The shallow wide basin features a finely cast high relief central medallion depicting the biblical scene of Salome and Saint John the Baptist framed by a Latin inscription “HERODIAS – SALOME – CAPUT JOANNIS”, signed E Picault Sculp near the lower edge, and bearing additional period foundry marks (“HP”) to each leg. The elaborately decorated base is supported by four cast legs surmounted by detailed lion masks that terminate in stylized paw feet with classical scrollwork spanning the apron.
