19TH C RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT PARASKEVA THE MARTYR - A 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicting Saint Paraskeva the Martyr (Paraskeva Pyatnitsa), painted in tempera on a gessoed wood panel. The saint is rendered in full-length standing posture against a pale landscape with flora, holding a martyr's cross in her hand. She is flanked by stylized Church Slavonic text cartouches reading ”СТЫЯ МҮЧЦА ПАРАСКЕВА” (Holy Martyr Paraskeva). The central composition is framed by a rich polychrome folk-ornamental floral border against a dark ground. The verso reveals a single wooden panel with inactive wormholes, wire mounting hardware, and channels for two missing horizontal reinforcement splints (sponki). antique, devotional, Christian, Eastern, Byzantine, relic, sacred, plaque, art, hagiography Dimensions 12 5/8 x 10 in. Condition Very good antique condition overall. The painted surface remains bright and stable with fine, minor age craquelure visible in the halo and light background. Scattered small cosmetic touch-ups and light surface wear. The wood panel shows minor edge wear and inactive wormholes on the reverse. Both horizontal wooden splints (sponki) are missing. Modern hanging wire installed.
