The America's Cup by Beken Of Cowes - London, Harvill Press, 1999. 208 pages, illustrated, 37.5 by 28 cm Hardcover book with dust jacket in pre-loved condition.  This revised edition offers up-to-date images and material in light of the 2001 Cup celebrating its 30th anniversary. The photographs in this book, selected from the Beken archives, cover the history of the competition, from its first challenge in 1870 to its 29th in 1995. The America's Cup is a sailing competition and the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). The winner is awarded the America's Cup trophy, informally known as the Auld Mug. Matches are held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger. There is no fixed schedule, but the races have generally been held every three to four years. Rare find and sold out book.
