The Ceramic Cargo of a Medieval South Asian Trading Vessel, auction catalogue Christie's London dd 11 December 1989 - Christie's, Manson & Woods Ltd, London, 1989 24 pp., 26.5 cm by 21 cm .   Soft cover, very good condition. Full colour illustrations of all 51 lots. The discovery in 1988 of an early medieval South-East Asian trading vessel, whilst not spectacular, does give a fascinating insight into the export wares on board a vessel travelling the high seas of South East-Asia sometime between the thirteenth and the fifteenth centuries. The cargo was discovered by Captain Michael Hatcher and his team. The Cargo provides a fascinating study vehicle for those interested in the history of Thai ceramics. Until the publication in the 1930s of various articles and privately circulated reports, very little was know about medieval Thai Ceramics. In the 1960s and 1970s further exhibitions and publications helped stimulate an new and vigorous interest in this neglected field. This auction sale brought to the attention of new collectors the charm and simple quality of these characteristic Asian Ceramics.
