The miniature was created by Sofya Mikhailovna Golikova (1928–2019), a representative of the renowned Golikov artistic dynasty of Palekh, whose members played a significant role in the development of the Palekh lacquer miniature tradition throughout the twentieth century. The composition depicts the Firebird, one of the most celebrated symbols of Russian folklore, traditionally associated with light, beauty, happiness, and renewal. Set against a deep black lacquer ground, the vibrant palette and extensive use of raised gold create a striking sense of luminosity and refinement. The Firebird is shown in dynamic flight, its graceful silhouette and richly ornamented plumage rendered with exceptional precision. Delicate gold highlights, subtle transparent layers of tempera, and flowing decorative lines exemplify the distinctive visual language of Palekh miniature painting. Stylised floral motifs complement the composition, reinforcing its lyrical and fairy-tale character. The brooch is executed in the traditional chelnok (shuttle-shaped oval) form, whose elongated silhouette enhances the movement of the composition.
