A dynamic late work by Nikolai Ivanovich Golikov, one of the leading masters of the Palekh school, Honoured Artist of the RSFSR, and a representative of a distinguished artistic dynasty, son of Ivan Ivanovich Golikov. The piece belongs to the artist’s late period and presents a developed battle composition structured through contrast and movement. The subject, “Duel, ” depicts two riders in combat. Set against a black lacquer ground, the figures are rendered in complex positions with expressive linear rhythm. The interplay of cinnabar and gold tones enhances the sense of tension and motion.
