Provenance An authentic author’s work from the memorial archive of Nikolai Ivanovich Golikov with impeccable family provenance. Created in 1970, during the artist’s mature period, the work reflects the full development of Golikov’s celebrated “flying” style, distinguished by its rhythmic freedom and decorative brilliance. The sketch remained preserved in the artist’s personal studio as a compositional study for graphic or exhibition work and constitutes a rare document of the creative process of one of the leading masters of twentieth-century Palekh art. Despite its intimate scale, the work possesses remarkable monumentality and exceptional plastic clarity. The composition centres on an elegant female figure dressed in traditional Palekh costume and placed within an idealized fairy-tale landscape.
