Provenance An exceptionally rare publishing original of museum importance from the memorial archive of Nikolai Ivanovich Golikov. The work originates directly from the Golikov family collection and represents an authentic artist’s design prepared for Soviet art postcard production in 1970. Its historical and documentary significance is reinforced by the survival of publisher’s stamps, editorial annotations,   technical layout markings, a fragment from Pushkin’s Ruslan and Lyudmila on the reverse. Such publishing originals rarely survived, as they were used directly in the printing preparation process. A remarkable monument of Palekh graphic art and Soviet publishing culture. Created after Pushkin’s Ruslan and Lyudmila, the composition represents one of the most lyrical and theatrical interpretations within the artist’s fairy-tale cycle. At the center lies the sleeping Lyudmila within a luxurious pavilion-like chamber attended by servants. The setting unfolds like a precious stage design: the gilded bed, coral-red draperies, and fantastic architecture create the atmosphere of an enchanted realm existing beyond ordinary time. In the upper right corner appears a swiftly flying rider on a white horse - a dramatic counterpoint to the stillness of the central scene. The contrast between sleep and motion becomes the emotional core of the composition. The reverse side, preserving editorial stamps and fragments of Pushkin’s text, transforms the work into both an artwork and a rare historical document of Soviet artistic publishing culture of the 1970s.
