Outer frame size: 67.6 x 79.8 cm. All measured values are approximate. Signature: Vincent van Gogh Description: A richly animated landscape depicting a grove of trees beneath an intensely luminous golden sky, with distant mountains rising beyond the vegetation. The composition is dominated by a dense arrangement of twisting trunks and spreading canopies, their forms constructed through rhythmic strokes of green, yellow, blue, brown, and black that create a pronounced sense of movement throughout the scene. A substantial tree trunk occupies the foreground near the center-left, while a sequence of slender trees recedes into the middle distance, establishing depth within the closely packed grove. The earth below is rendered in saturated passages of reddish-brown, orange, ochre, and yellow, crossed by irregular bands of cooler blue and green that suggest paths, shadows, and variations in the terrain. At right, a narrow pathway bordered by flowering vegetation leads toward a small architectural structure, while beyond the trees a pale blue and violet mountain rises against the horizon. The sky is transformed into an active field of brilliant yellow, gold, cream, and white, articulated through repeated short strokes that create a shimmering effect of intense sunlight. The expressive contours, vigorous directional brushwork, complementary contrasts, and animated treatment of trees and landscape reflect visual characteristics closely associated with Vincent van Gogh's late nineteenth-century work in Provence, where groves, gardens, mountainous terrain, and the powerful southern light became recurring subjects. The lower left is signed ”Vincent.” The work is presented in a broad cream-colored decorative frame with carved and gilt ornamental detailing.
